Almost all of edge is net-new load, so attention must be paid to the energy usage and environmental impacts of these deployments. However, there is an opportunity for edge compute to open up scope 4 emissions due to the efficiencies imparted on industries such as manufacturing and retail, effectively making the edge facilities carbon-negative.
