The trials are currently operating in test mode, with Bakcell testing the network at three locations in the capital – Fountain Square, Khagani Garden (aka Molokan Garden), and the Deniz Mall shopping center.

Founded in 1994, Bakcell provides mobile services to over three million customers, and is part of NEQSOL Holding.

According to the company, its mobile services provide coverage to 99.9 percent of Azerbaijan's population, with the company boasting 9,000 base stations.

Last year domestic rival operator Azercell was gearing up for its own 5G launch, although it appears the operator is still testing this service, with its website noting that the service is coming soon.
