Cloud, colocation and interconnection service provider Cologix has acquired a 16,000 square foot (1,486 square meter) data center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, increasing its footprint in the city to 60,000 square feet (5,574 square meters) of whitespace.

The facility was owned by Florida-based colocation provider vXchnge, who sold it for an unknown sum.

The vXchnge facility is located in the city’s interconnection hub, the Minneapolis Technology center at 511 11th Avenue South. The building is known as the 511 building, and was previously called the BTC/Bunker.

Cologix chairman and CEO Bill Fathers said the deal “will enable more businesses to connect to Cologix's robust ecosystem of networks, clouds and partners very quickly through the Cologix Platform,” with services including Amazon Web Services Direct Connect and Microsoft Azure’s ExpressRoute".

As of this acquisition, Cologix will offer its services from 30 interconnection hubs and four hyperscale sites across 10 US states. Its sites include Ashburn, Virginia; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; Jacksonville and Lakeland, Florida; Montreal, Quebec; New Jersy; Tronto; and Vancouver,

For its part, vXchnge has facilities in Austin, Texas; Chappaqua, New York; Nashville, Tennessee; Philadelphia and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota; Portland, Oregon; Durham, North Carolina; Santa Clara, California; Secaucus, New Jersey; and St. Louis, Missouri.

Additionally, Cologix has access to the European and Asian markets, since it signed a strategic alliance with European colocation company Colt, whose portfolio includes facilities in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Madrid, Milan, Rotterdam, Paris and Zurich. Colt also operates facilities in Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Busan, since it bought Asian operator KVH.
