Carrier-neutral colocation provider CyrusOne has acquired land and a newly-built powered shell for an enterprise data center in Sterling, Virginia.

The first phase of the facility is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2019. At full build-out, the data center is expected to provide 33MW of available power - an addition that will bring the company’s total power capacity in Northern Virginia to more than 160MW.

“Our land acquisition, development, construction, and capital markets teams continue to execute at a level unmatched in the industry to produce the inventory necessary to meet the ongoing need for new capacity in Northern Virginia and other key markets.”

The latest purchase establishes CyrusOne’s fourth georgaphically separate campus in Northern Virginia, a market it entered in 2015 when it opened its Sterling I Data Center. The company is currently working on its most ambitious project in the region, Sterling V, expected to reach one million square feet at full build.

In total, CyrusOne operates 45 data centers across the United States, Europe and Asia.
