American colocation provider Data Foundry is set to build another data center next to its headquarters in Austin, Texas.

According to the planning permission discovered by property website BuildZoom, the facility - presumably called Texas 2 – will cost around $40 million, and will be located on the same plot of land as the existing Texas 1 data center.

Local growth

Data Foundry (formerly Texas.net) is a privately held company headquartered in Austin. Originally an ISP, today it owns and operates four data centers across the state and maintains presence in Ashburn, America’s most active data center market, through a deal with Equinix.

Its latest facility to date is located in the Greenspoint District - a hub for several technology companies that together form part of the Houston Technology Corridor.

Data Foundry opened Texas 1 in 2011, delivering a massive 250,000 square feet data center backed by 400MW power supply and supporting rack densities of up to 50kW. The facility must be running out of space, because the company has recently filed a planning permission, hoping to start work on an expansion.

In April, Data Foundry applied for a permit to build a data center shell at the cost of $16.1 million. And earlier this week, it added a $23.5 million permit for the same address, for the interior build-out of a facility for ‘communications services’.
