DataBank has expanded its PIT2 data center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The company added 25,000 sq ft (2,300 sqm) of raised floor space and 2.5MW of capacity to the site, bringing the total to 40,000 sq ft (3,700 sqm) and 4.5MW.

“It’s been estimated that local enterprises have invested more than $2 billion into research and development in the area,” said Danny Allen, VP of engineering at DataBank. “This investment is driving the need for colocation, connectivity, and cloud services, and makes Pittsburgh a prime location for enterprise-class data centers.”

Acquired by DataBank from PNC Bank in 2019, the three-story, 115,000 sq ft (10,700 sqm) building in North Fayette Township is located on a ten-acre site, which the company says gives it the opportunity to expand in the future.

The facility is one of two DataBank data centers in the city; PIT1 is located downtown at the NOVA Place carrier hotel and offers 20,000 sq ft (1,850 sqm) of raised-floor space.

DataBank recently raised more than $750 million in secure revenue notes to fund expansions. The company has since announced expansions to data centers in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Indianapolis, Indiana.
