In this presentation Patrick Flynn, director of sustainability at Salesforce.com, outlines how the data center industry might develop over the next decade, taking into account rapid growth of data, strain on networks, increases in energy and water consumption, as well as waste and emissions.

Far from being pessimistic, Flynn thinks these issues present opportunities to become “insanely wealthy while saving the planet.” He also explains how data centers can be moral, and notes the importance of machine feedback in improving your server fleet.

The presentation took place at the DCD Webscale event in San Jose, California.
