DCI Data Centers is expanding into New Zealand.

The company this week said it has been granted New Zealand Overseas Investment Office (OIO) consent to purchase land for a new data center in Auckland.

“We are delighted to be kicking off our cloud program in New Zealand; these facilities will accelerate the adoption of cloud services, critical for enabling growth across all sectors of the economy,” said Malcolm Roe, DCI CEO for Australia and New Zealand. “This site is the first step for us in New Zealand and we are currently finalizing selection of further sites to meet strong demand.”

DCI AKL01 will be located on a site at Westgate in north-west Auckland. After engagement with Auckland Council, DCI has lodged a resource consent application for the facility. The company hasn’t provided timelines for when the facility might come online.

“Increasing cloud use in New Zealand is driving the demand for several high capacity, environmentally-friendly data centers and other related infrastructure within the country,” added Roe.

Part of Brookfield Asset Management, DCI currently has two data centers located in Sydney and Adelaide. It has also recently announced an additional AU$70 million investment in a new 4MW data center at its current Adelaide facility.

Auckland Deputy Mayor, Bill Cashmore said: “I am really pleased to see commercial developments ramping up at Westgate. Regional employment and commercial activities based around the whole of Auckland is a critical regional growth factor.”
