Latin American ICT company InterNexa has opened a new data center in Santiago, Chile.
The 150 square meter (1,600 sq ft) facility is the company’s first in the country and located in the Barrio El Golf area of the capital city.
“Chile is one of the countries in the region in which we have a presence and which has maintained constant growth since our arrival. In addition, it has positioned itself as the technological hub of the region, which has generated the window for investment in technological development,” said Carlos Ignacio Giraldo, Internexa country manager.
In March InterNexa’s parent company Electricity utility Interconexion Electrica SA (ISA) announced plans to sell its telecommunication and information technology business in order to focus on on its core businesses of power transmission and road concessions.
The sale of 100 percent of the shares in InterNexa is expected to happen this year, the company said in a statement, but hasn’t said who the interested parties might be or the potential size of the deal.
The sale takes advantage of high investor appetite for telecommunications and IT in the region, said ISA CEO Bernardo Vargas.
“The market is hot for these types of assets right now,” he said. “We think it’s a very good time to sell.”
