European colocation provider Interxion plans to build new data centers in Frankfurt and Marseille, and expand its presence in Vienna.

“Interxion’s growing communities of interest and the customer value they create are attracting strong demand across our European footprint,” CEO David Ruberg said. “Interxion is continuing to invest to meet this demand, and today we are announcing further expansions in three of our markets.”

The €90 million ($106m) FRA13 will be constructed in two phases, totaling 4,800 sq m (51,666 sq ft) of equipped space and 10MW of customer available power. The first phase is planned to open in Q4 2018, bringing 2,300 sq m (24,757 sq ft) online; the second phase is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019.

Ruberg said: “Together with FRA11 and FRA12, which are already under construction, we are expanding our Frankfurt campus by over 10,000 sq m (107,639 sq ft) or 50 percent in the next 7 quarters.”

MRS2 will be constructed in three phases for €76m ($90m), totaling 4,300 sq m (46,284 sq ft) of equipped space and over 7MW of customer available power. The first phase, set for Q1 2018, will bring 900 sq m (9,687 sq ft); and the second phase, set for Q3 2018, will add 1,800 sq m.

Ruberg continued: “Since Interxion entered the market in 2014, Marseille has experienced significant growth and evolved into a crucial regional connectivity hub, with the number of connectivity providers resident in our data centre more than doubling in that time.

“The globally strategic location of the city, combined with the strong communities of interest that are forming in our data center, is attracting new cloud and content providers to Marseille. We are adding capacity to meet that strong demand.”

Interxion’s existing VIE2 data center will be expanded in two phases, along with having its available power increased. Together, the €45m ($53m) phases will add 2,300 sq m (24,756 sq ft) and approximately 6MW of customer power.
