Data center service provider Interxion has launched a service that gives private connections to multiple cloud service providers (CSPs) so they can shift workloads around more easily.

Interxion said the Cloud Connect service, will give cloud computing systems greater flexibility.

It expects its initial Cloud Connect deployments are expected in Q3 2014 and will launch in its London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam facilities.

Interxion has 37 data centers in 11 European countries, with 500 Connectivity providers and 20 European Internet exchanges.

It said it expects more locations will follow in 2015.

Interxion’s colocation and data center services are used by enterprises, service providers (SPs), system integrators (SIs) and carriers, the company said.

It said the full benefits of cloud computing have not been realized yet, because the capacity of the data center and the cloud does not have the fullest flexibility.

To address this, Interxion has created what it describes as ‘private, secure and high performance connections’ to multiple clouds from within its data centers.

Interxion said this will make it easier for clients to shift business critical workloads and real time data to the cloud.

It claims the private connection between the customer and the CSP lets clients bypass the public Internet and achieve service level guarantees on latency, throughput and security.

Interxion’s VP of product management Mario Galvez said businesses can’t create a dynamic and fluid system for providing IT resources until they have migrated to a hybrid model.

“Every organization beginning a migration to the cloud faces the challenge of making the hybrid model work with their existing IT installations,” Galvez said.

“The choice of data center is important because the applications running in different environments need to interact in a secure and high performance manner.”

Galvez said as the use of hybrid IT solutions increases, so too does the need for a data center provider who understands the complexities of these environments.

The Cloud Connect platform is underpinned by BTI Systems’ software defined networking systems.
