Jersey telcos Jersey Telecom and Sure Jersey look set to offer full 5G packages in the future after having applications accepted by regulators.

The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) has now issued an ‘Outcome Information Note’ related to this matter, confirming that it has accepted applications from the duo for the ‘Full Service’ 5G spectrum packages that were on offer.

It comes after the JCRA invited bids from operators interested in bidding for the 5G spectrum in September 2022.

The JCRA plans to invite further bids from other operators later this year. Airtel-Vodafone also operates a mobile network on the Channel Island, but was recently acquired by Batelco-owned Sure.

Tim Ringsdore, CEO of the JCRA, said: "We are pleased to confirm the outcome of our application process for 5G spectrum licenses in Jersey and make important progress towards Islanders being able to access next-generation mobile services.

"There has been a lot of internal focus and effort made to reach this point, supported by welcome involvement and commitment of local telecoms operators and UK communications regulator Ofcom. We are looking forward to concluding the licensing process next year."
