Data center operator Ascent has signed up Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) to market space in a data center in Alpharetta, Georgia, which it acquired from BlackBerry in 2017.

The Ascent ATL1 data center, at 4905 North Point Parkway, has around 34,000 square feet (3,000 sq m) of available white space in a 185,000 square foot facility, set on a 38-acre site. The data center, with 8.1MW of available power, was bought from BlackBerry in 2017 for $30 million, with some space reportedly leased back to the once-mighty Canadian phone maker.

Room for expansion

Ascent’s press release says the site can be expanded to 30MW in two planned phases of development. Datacenter Hawk reports the data center was built in 2009.  

“We look forward to working with the local Atlanta area end-user community and bringing JLL’s international expertise to Ascent’s development,” said Wendy McArthur, managing director, JLL Data Center Solutions. “The Alpharetta area and this location in particular has excellent fiber and power infrastructure already in place.”

Ascent bought the facility with help from investment management firm TowerBrook Capital Partners at the same time as the purchase of another former BlackBerry site - the 4.8MW Toronto data center, TOR1, on 17 Vondrau Drive.
