The company has commenced construction, and the first phase of the K2 JKT 1 Campus will be ready for service in early 2024. The company said the facilities will be Uptime Institute Tier III and LEED Gold certified.

The JV has a second campus development of similar scale in the pipeline located in Karawang Regency, Greater Jakarta.

Kuok Meng Wei, K2’s Managing Director, and CEO said: “We are extremely pleased to partner with SML in Indonesia to provide critical infrastructure for the fast-growing digital economy. After several years developing and operating DCs for our hyperscale customers in Europe, K2 JKT 1 Campus marks our debut in APAC, where we continue to bring our leading technical and operational service experience to our customers in this exciting region.”

Michael Widjaja, SML Indonesia’s Group CEO, added: “SML is excited to welcome and work closely with K2 Data Centres in Indonesia. We are witnessing first-hand the rapid growth of Indonesia’s digital economy and are deeply committed to supporting Indonesia’s transformation into a digital and economic powerhouse. We believe this joint venture will contribute meaningfully to the digital infrastructure required to enable Indonesia to realize the full potential of its digital opportunities.”

Established in 2017, K2 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysian conglomerate the Kuok Group, owned by Malaysian billionaire Robert Kuok. The company currently has one 18MW data center in Dublin, Ireland spanning 127,000 sq ft, as well as offices in Singapore and Hong Kong.

In 2019 the company was reportedly exploring expanding its footprint in Ireland; on its LinkedIn, the company claims to be planning a 62MW facility in the city.

Singapore Stock Exchange-listed Sinarmas Land is an Indonesian real estate development company and a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group conglomerate.

The companies said Sinar Mas will bring its extensive capabilities in facilities and infrastructure management, and the new campus will expand K2’s proven track record of delivery and operating facilities to Indonesia.
