Time Warner Cable's hosting business NaviSite has launched an off-site replication service built on EMC's Data Domain storage systems using the pay-as-you-go cloud infrastructure services model.

The idea is to give enterprises a scalable off-site replication solution that frees them from having to invest in a lot of storage capacity upfront. It also eliminates the need for traditional off-site physical tape backup services.

Called NaviCloud Vault, the solution is designed for customers already using EMC's Data Domain deduplication storage systems in on-premise data protection systems. It extends the on-prem environment into one of NaviSite's data centers and can be integrated with the service provider's cloud and managed hosting offerings.

Sumeet Sabharwal, group VP and general manager at NaviSite, said, “Companies are seeking an efficient, cost-effective data protection strategy keeping their evolving disaster recovery and compliance goals in mind.

“With our NaviCloud Vault Enterprise Replication and Storage solution, we are enabling companies to meet their comprehensive risk, uptime and business continuity objectives by delivering a robust, scalable, fully managed, and compliant disk-based off-site replication solution.”

Time Warner Cable bought NaviSite in 2011 for US$230m.
