Uruguayan operator Dedicado has selected Nokia to provide its 5G non-standalone (NSA) network in the 3.5GHz (n78) spectrum band with LTE in the 900MHz spectrum band.

The deployment of this 5G NSA will help push Dedicado's plans to offer next-generation mobile broadband services to its customers.

Dedicado is set to utilize the 3.5GHz spectrum to support dense urban coverage, with the operator's 5G commercial network covering selected geographic areas around the capital city, Montevideo, and Canelones initially.

To help support Dedicado's plans around 5G NSA, Nokia is providing equipment from its AirScale portfolio to build the Radio Access Network (RAN), including 5G base stations, plus other radio access products, that Nokia says will provide superior speed, capacity, and lower latencies.

“We selected Nokia as our trusted vendor due to its innovative and secure, high-quality technology portfolio which will ensure we are able to future-proof our services and deliver a world-class 5G network, levering innovation in the country," said Arturo Vargas, CEO, Dedicado Uruguay.

It will be the first deployment of Nokia's commercial 5G network in the South American country.
