Wholesale data center developer and operator Prime Data Centers is planning its second facility in Silicon Valley.

The 9MW site on Martin Avenue in Santa Clara will span around 80,000 square feet (7,400 sq m) of data center space across three stories.

“Santa Clara is one of the most desired data center locations globally due to its proximity to the vibrant and structurally important San Francisco Bay Area," Jeff Barber, EVP sales and business development at Prime, said.

"In addition, the relatively affordable power rates from Silicon Valley Power (SVP) are very advantageous. Yet, it is difficult to find wholesale data center space in this area because of the scarcity and expense of available real estate, and the difficulty of obtaining guarantees that the power is available to service the new capacity. Prime has such assurances from SVP in hand today.”

The Martin Avenue data center is one mile from Prime's other 9MW Santa Clara, which was last month fully pre-leased to Cyxtera.

The company is similarly looking for pre-lease customers for its new data center, which is expected to be completed by Q2 2022.
