QTS Data Centers has held back on a planned request for $45 million in tax breaks for its huge data center project near the Atlanta BeltLine's Westside Trail.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that QTS paused the request for incentives for the $1.3 billion project with two data centers on 50 acres in the Knight Park/Howell Station historic district.
But the Development Authority of Fulton County could revisit the request within two weeks, after allowing the company to respond to questions and address concerns.
The $45m would come over ten years, and support a project expected to provide around 15-20 permanent jobs. With construction, the company believes that there will be an estimated economic impact of about $2.2 billion.
"This development is obviously going to be completed with or without a tax abatement, which would therefore be incentivizing nothing," said Jim Martin, chair of Neighborhood Planning Unit D, while speaking to the board during a public hearing.
QTS' 'Project Granite' in Georgia has gone through multiple changes due to local pushback and a planned effort to turn the Atlanta BeltLine railway corridor into a multi-use trail.
