Orange is planning to invest €20 million ($23.2m) on five new data centers in Spain between now and 2023, having opened a new facility in the country last month.

El Economista reports that the telco plans to begin construction on the facilities over the next few months with the aim of having them fully operational before the end of 2023.

The first facility will be Salamanca, on which work will begin this quarter. The other facilities will be located in Orense, León, Cáceres, and Almería. The investment for each facility reportedly amounts to around €4 million ($4.7m).

Last month Orange opened a new Spanish data center in Santander. The €4m facility measures 1,236 square meters (13,300 sq ft) and is located in the Candina Industrial Park the northern Cantabria region of the country. The company said at the time it was to support the company’s mobile, fixed, and television telephony services in the region.

2021 has also seen the telco open a new data center in Warsaw, Poland; acquire a facility in Casablanca, Morocco; and form a new sovereign cloud joint venture with Capgemini to resell Microsoft services in France.
