Rogers Communications has opened the doors of its data center in Calgary, which it claims will give Canadians and international businesses a highly reliable and certified data center presence in Western Canada.

The facility dubbed Calgary_DC3 is the first Tier III certified data center in Alberta to receive the Uptime Institute's Tier III certification for design and will be certified for construction.

It is the company’s second Tier III certified facility in Canada.

The facility is 85,000 sq ft with access to both raised floor and business resumption space, with capacity for over 900 cabinets.

The company said the facility will provide businesses of all sizes with access to secure, world class data center services.

The operator said the center is within close enough proximity to Calgary city limits to be used as a primary corporate data center for that market, and far enough out to be used as a disaster recovery site.

Rogers currently operates in 15 locations across Canada, servicing a variety of small, medium, government and enterprise clients.

The new facility builds on its 2013 investment of $700 million in Alberta and acquisition of Pivot Data Centres Calgary and Edmonton operations for $155 million.

Rogers Data Centers’ president AJ Byers said the company understands the pressures businesses face when managing corporate data.

“Regardless of the size or type of business they operate, companies will have access to unmatched offerings and expertise with the assurance that their information is located securely in an outstanding facility," Byers said.
