Hundreds of Tesla drivers were locked out of their cars on Saturday 20 November due to a server outage.

The issue affected users across the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. It meant that drivers could not use the Tesla phone app to unlock their car, or control certain features of the vehicle, but could still access their vehicle if they were carrying their keycard.

"Should be coming back online now. Looks like we may have accidentally increased verbosity of network traffic," CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter later that day.

"Apologies, we will take measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again."

In 2020, Tesla experienced a significant outage that took out app connectivity, online orders, customer communication, and more.

The issue followed a smaller outage four years earlier, when an AT&T outage impacted the Tesla Nav internal navigation software and various other in-car services, including music and remotely activated air conditioning.
