ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has released details of its partnership with Thailand-based industrial property developer Ticon, and the Bangkok data center the two will be building.

Under the deal, first announced in April 2018, STT GDC will own 49 percent of the venture which is building a facility on a 75,000 sq m (15-rai) site in the Ramkhamhaeng district of central Bangkok, with Ticon the majority shareholder, according to a joint press statement.

Bring on Thailand 4.0

This is STT GDC’s first foray into the Thai data center market, said STT GDC’s group CEO Bruno Lopez in a statement: “We are confident that with our expertise in designing, building and operating data centers, as well as the local expertise of Ticon in understanding the needs of the Thai market and navigating its regulatory environment, we will be able to help [our customers] realize the Thailand 4.0 vision,” said Lopez.

Thailand 4.0 is a government industrial policy to encourage the country's digital economy in Thailand, which will be led by the public sector, according to a DCD interview with the executive vice president of Thailand’s Electronic Government Agency (EGA) earlier in 2018.

Ticon president Sopon Racharaksa was also upbeat the joint venture in his prepared statement: “This joint venture partnership will... create synergies and realize the immense potential for growth in the data centre business in Thailand.”
