Cloud services and hosting provider Hostopia Australia has connected its five Sydney data centers to Equinix’s SY5 and ME2 data centers.

The company said the deployment would allow it to overcome the limitations of its current facilities and leverage Equinix's presence in-country.

Working together

"This collaboration with Equinix will enable us to consolidate and reduce the number of disparate providers we were working with," said Hostopia CTO Ross Krumbeck.

“Beyond a simple data center agreement, this collaboration will allow our customers to benefit from best of breed data center facilities with high security and compliance standards, robust power and cooling redundancy as well as abundant connectivity options."

The move also allows Hostopia to improve its cloud services and offer Equinix services to its customers.

Equinix Australia MD Guy Danskine added: “Businesses across Australia are increasingly turning to hybrid cloud architectures as part of their digital transformation journeys. By deploying on Platform Equinix, Hostopia will give its customers access to our robust cloud ecosystem and benefit from improved service delivery and connectivity.”

Last month, Equinix announced it was focusing on expanding its Australian presence with plans to build its third data center in Perth.

PE3 will be the company’s 18th data center in Australia. At $54m, the first phase of PE3 is targeted to open in Q4 2021. According to Equinix, Perth is a strategic part of Australia’s Internet infrastructure due to its proximity to Southeast Asia and direct connectivity via two submarine cable links - the Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) and Indigo Cable.

A third submarine cable is being built connecting Australia to Oman; where Equinix also launched a data center last month.
