Lithuanian telecoms firm Telia Lietuva has announced a €2 million ($2.4 million) expansion of its S2 data center in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The telco is expanding and modernizing the Tier III-compliant facility in the capital city is, taking it to 80 racks with a total capacity of 400 kW.
Pandemic drives up demand for data centers
"The pandemic has opened up the eyes of companies to the importance of high-quality IT services and solutions for business continuity,” said Daniel Karpovič, Head of Enterprises at Telia Lietuva. “Increasingly more Lithuanian companies – from small family businesses that have decided to try e-commerce, to medium and large companies – have been ordering all IT services from Telia Lietuva as a one-stop-shop: from communication, maintenance of IT facilities to website hosting, cloud and data center services.”

As with Telia Lietuva’s other two data centers, the Vilnius facility uses 100 percent green electricity. It also has energy-efficient modern cooling equipment utilizing indirect free-cooling technology with a rotary heat exchanger.
One of Telia’s most noted customers is second-hand fashion marketplace app and Lithuania's first startup ‘unicorn’, Vinted, which last year signed two equipment lease and data center services agreements with the telco totaling €2.5 million ($3 million).
