An outage at the University of Virginia was caused by the fallen trees impacting the on-site data center's grid connection.

The facility was meant to automatically move to a backup generator, but the backup switch failed.

The data center went down late on Sunday local time, and was restored from 11:30am on Monday after UVA workers manually transferred power to the data center.

The outage impacted WiFi services and disabled access to some applications that require NetBadge authentication, local university publication UVAToday reports.

Those include Workday, Collab, the Student Information System, UVABox and other applications.
