Vertiv has opened a factory in Rugvica, Croatia to build integrated modular data centers.

The new facility more than doubles capacity, with 130 percent more indoor space. It can also be easily expanded to take advantage of continued growth in demand for prefabricated data centers. The factory will also construct air handling units.

Latest modular data center tools

“The Rugvica factory has all the latest technologies, manufacturing processes, tools, and test laboratories,” said Viktor Petik, vice president of integrated modular solutions Vertiv EMEA, (Google translate). "It is designed to provide a wide range of prefabricated modular solutions, cable stations that power the Internet connecting the world, all the way to data centers according to specific customer requirements. Also, this production plant is a proof of our persistence towards innovation and growth."

Vertiv created 150 jobs in the EMEA region in 2020, mostly from engineering or qualified professionals, said Petik.

Prefabricated modular data centers, like Vertiv's SmartMod range can be standardized, or site specific, including all-in-one systems that combine IT, power and cooling infrastructure. They are widely used in Edge applications, the industrial and healthcare sector, and in remote and harsh environments. Working modular systems are pre-built and tested, so they can be delivered on site for a fast startup and commissioning.

“We hear a lot about IT trends and upcoming developments in technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI, but we don't know much about the innovative physical infrastructure behind it,” said Giordano Albertazzi, president of Vertiv Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

“We are seeing strong growth in the adoption of prefabricated modular solutions to support these new technologies.”
