We talk about networking records, Google’s outage and Amazon’s cloud dominance

This week on White Space, we start with news about high density cable arrangements and world fiber speed records. Reichle & De-Massari has created a cabling system that brings 120 strands of fiber into a single rack unit, while a team from Hong Kong Polytechnic University has achieved data speeds of 240 Gbps over a single fiber link across 2km.

Teo Data Centers has built an interesting facility in Lithuania, offering reliable colocation services in the geographical center of Europe.

Meanwhile AWS has made public its plans to earn $10 billion from cloud in 2016 and appointed a dedicated cloud CEO - Andy Jassy.

We also look at Ambedded, a business that makes unusual storage servers, with every individual drive managed by its own tiny individual server with a tiny individual ARM chip.

And finally, we explain the Google Compute Engine outage, and look at implications of Emerson Network Power spinning off its power distribution business under a new name - Vertiv.
