Google's YouTube video platform and Meta's Facebook and Instagram social media sites experienced brief outages late Wednesday.

The companies did not detail the cause of the issues, and it is not known if they are related.

"The YouTube Homepage should be back for all of your video needs," the company said in a statement, but did not provide further information. The wider Google Cloud service shows no issues.

As for Meta, the company said: "A technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing our products. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible."

The problems occurred shortly after Twitter temporarily broke, with CEO Elon Musk telling staff to pause aggressive data center consolidation plans.

Around the same time, a Microsoft data center in South East Asia saw its cooling systems shut down, bringing some websites in the region offline - although that is not believed to be linked to the above outages.
