European colocation specialist Zenium Technology Partners is entering the UK market with a plan to create a data center in Slough, a town on the outskirts of London that hosts more data centers than any other region of the country.

The facility, codenamed London One, joins the portfolio that already includes Istanbul One and Frankfurt One.

The company will buy a powered shell from SEGRO, the Slough Trading Estate’s management company, and build data halls there. Zenium says its design will exceed Uptime Tier III when build out is completed, and it will seek to certify it when the facility is operational.

“SEGRO has vast experience of building bespoke buildings for data center operators, as demonstrated by the 29 operational data centers on the Slough Trading Estate,” said a statement from Zenium, in answer to questions from DCD.

Zenium is a data center consultancy and investment fund with a proven track record, having previously worked with operators like Global Switch and Sentrum. In 2014, the company began offering colocation services under its own brand, following the opening of the Frankfurt One campus in Germany.

What we do know about this latest venture is the facility offers 4,300 square meters of raised floor space, with incoming diverse power of 15MVA.

The building is currently undergoing extensive redesign and Zenium says it will be constructed to exacting standards of engineering and provide a Tier III+ plus level of resilience.

“We are delighted to have seized this opportunity and acquired this site,” said Franek Sodzawiczny, founder and CEO at Zenium.

“Zenium will soon be able to offer a quality data center solution in the UK that fulfils rising demands driven by cloud providers that only consider the most efficient data centers in the world. The decision to build a brand profile in the UK comes with encouragement from existing customers and those we have served in the past - we are excited to be here.”

London One is expected to welcome first customers from January 2017.
