The energetic Bill Kleyman, EVP of digital solutions at Switch, talks to Sebastian Moss at DCD>San Francisco about the company's latest sustainability initiatives, its views on Edge computing, its controversial 'Tier 5' self-score, and more.
"Greenpeace recognized us as the greenest technology company out there," Bill Kleyman enthuses.
Edge is there to cut latency, he says: "Slow is the new down."
But more importantly, he argues that Edge has to be reliable, and not just quick. The applications that are supported there are just as crucial as centralized ones, he argues - hence Switch now has micro data centers.
Kleyman also addressed Switch's announcement of a "Tier 5" reliability specification, saying it currently only applies to its own data centers, apparently pulling back from the initial announcement which suggested the specification could be applied across the industry.
