CoreSite Realty Corporation has started the first phase of construction on its 169,000 square foot (15,700 sq m) CH2 colo data center.
The company plans to build the 18MW CH2 facility in three 6MW phases, the total cost of the project will be $190m to $210 million, the company estimates.
Chicago expansion
CoreSite is known for building vertical multi-story data centers in urban areas, CH2 will be the company’s second data center in Chicago.
The new facility will be located a mile away from the CHT data center in Chicago’s financial district, and CoreSite plans to link the two with multiple dark fiber connections so customers can have reliable failover options.
Matt Gleason, CoreSite’s VP and general manager, said: “We expect to complete the first phase of the building next year, delivering an efficient data center design capable of supporting high density requirements and enabling customers to solve for mission critical, performance-sensitive hybrid cloud applications.”
The data centers will have access to 30 networks and cloud on-ramps including AWS Direct Connect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute and Google Cloud Platform’s Dedicated Interconnect - as well as on-demand cloud services through the CoreSite Open Cloud Exchange.
CoreSite opened its second data center in Washington in February, calling it DC2. The Washington colocation facility offers more than 24,000 square feet (2,230 sq m) of data center space.
CoreSite operates 21 US data centers across seven states, the company’s largest presence in Silicon Valley where it owns four data centers - SV1, SV2, SV4 and SV7.
