Saara Rantanen from Fortum says data center operators can shape energy markets

In this interview Saara Rantanen, originator at Fortum, suggests that data centers should increase their cooperation with the power grid operators, since they are the perfect candidates to participate in innovative frequency containment and load balancing projects. They can also find new revenue sources by selling their waste heat.

Fortum is one of the largest power generators in the Nordics that already runs frequency containment trials – although these are currently focused on consumers – and buys waste heat from several infrastructure projects.

The conversation took place at the DCD Zettastructure conference in London.
