FieldView Solutions has launched a new version of its Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) suite - FieldView 2015.

The company specializes in monitoring data center power and cooling, and presenting information in an easily understandable format.

The latest release introduces a more efficient interface, enhanced capacity analysis capabilities and a new optional module - PowerView - for detailed power chain analysis and failure simulation.

FieldView 2015 will be presented at the DCD New York conference, which begins on Tuesday. It will become generally available on 31 March.

FieldView Solutions has been making DCIM software since 2006. Its latest release – the 17th iteration of FieldView – is the first to be entirely re-written with a front end in HTML5, so it looks better than its predecessor, while still being accessible through any browser-enabled device.

“Since it’s a re-write, it has allowed us to do a lot of new and interesting things,” Sev Onyshkevych, CMO at FieldView told DatacenterDynamics.

“It’s a single-page application now. If you think of something like Google Maps – where there’s essentially just one screen and you change parameters – that’s how the new application works. You’re not going through hierarchical menus or drop-down lists.

“If I have put together a dashboard or some trending data for the past ‘X’ amount of time I can then bookmark it or send a URL to somebody else and say ‘hey, look at that.’ And they would click on that hyperlink and see what I’m seeing – assuming they have permission.”

FieldView 2015 introduces an all-new optional module - PowerView - which looks at the state of the entire power chain, and helps create new configurations. Among other things, it is capable of simulating cascading failures and estimating downtime based on historic trends.

The company has also added new features to LiveView – its collection of advanced APIs which enable the software to connect to the hardware sensors in real-time, and feed the data not just into FieldView 2015, but any of the compatible third-party applications. DataView, the information warehouse for data center metrics, has also been updated.

FieldView 2015 is aimed at very large data centers – Onyshkevych says the majority of the company’s customers run facilities that consume at least 10MW of power. This list includes Rackspace, Sentinel Data Centers and six of the 10 largest banks in the world.

According to the CMO, FieldView is not aiming to provide the most comprehensive DCIM package out there. Instead, it focuses on core strengths in monitoring and interoperability, while interacting with control systems such as third-party DCIM and ITSM tools, orchestrators and dashboards, using APIs.
