Google is buying Elastifile, and plans to offer the enterprise cloud storage provider's service on Google Cloud.

The deal - but not the purchase price - was announced in a Google blog post and is expected to close later this year, subject to regulatory approvals.

Enterprise expansion

Elastifile, launched in 2014, offers network attached storage (NAS) in public cloud services including Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The founders, Amira Aharoni, Roni Luxenburg and Shahar Frank, raised $74 million in venture capital.

“File storage is fundamental to enterprise infrastructure and a priority for customers looking to accelerate their digital transformation," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud in the blog post: "For example, companies who run SAP need access to highly available and consistent file storage. Developers building applications that use Kubernetes need file storage for their stateful workloads,”

Since taking command of Google Cloud, Kurian has been building the company’s enterprise and multi-cloud abilities, with deals like the recent acquisition of analytics company Looker for $2.6 billion.

Purchasing Looker was Kurian’s first major acquisition of his premiership as well as his most expensive purchase since starting at Google Cloud this January, after leaving Oracle.
