In order to accommodate a growing number of network carriers in its massive data center in Dallas, wholesale colo provider Infomart has expanded its meet-me-room to twice its original capacity.

The company built the carrier-neutral space in 2015, a month after it launched the data center on the site - the largest facility of its kind in Texas, offering 24,000 sq ft (2,229 sq m) of space and currently undergoing a 500kW expansion.

The building itself was constructed in the 80s with the intention of making it a technology hotspot, and Infomart used it as a carrier hotel before it merged with Fortune Data Centers in 2014, becoming Infomart Data Centers. It was designed to resemble the Crystal Palace, a London landmark built for the Great Exhibition of 1851 and destryed by fire in 1936.

Tenants connecting in the Infomart meet-me-room can access up to twelve carriers and network providers, as well as the DE-CIX Dallas Internet exchange. Additionally, the company states it is able to facilitate interconnections with more than 75 networking providers and colo customers within the data center. Cloud providers ServedBy the Net and Verizon Communications are the latest to have joined the interconnection site.

“For companies with latency-sensitive applications or that are deploying hybrid cloud, proximity and connectivity have become business-critical,” said John Sheputis, Infomart Data Centers’ president.

“The provider and service diversity within building-meet-me-room and Infomart-operated wholesale suites makes Infomart Dallas the ideal option in the region for linking to communication systems both nationally and globally.”
