European data center provider and NTT Communications subsidiary e-shelter has completed the first phase of its Frankfurt 4 data center campus in Hattersheim, Frankfurt.

Frankfurt 4 is e-shelter’s fourth data center site in the city and its 12th in the EU. Once fully built out, the campus will cover 24,000 sq m (258, 300 sq ft) and have a power capacity of 80MW across five data center buildings.

Fourth Frankfurt foray

E-shelter acquired the site for its Fourth Frankfurt facility in March of last year, and said at the time that this first phase will have a power capacity of 9.7MW.

The carrier-neutral Hattersheim campus is located approximately 10km from two of the existing e-shelter sites in the city, Frankfurt 1 and Frankfurt 3. Hattersheim is a southwestern suburb of Frankfurt which is also home to the European Central Bank.

Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO of e-shelter, said: “Phase 1 of Frankfurt 4 was built in less than 12 months with significant capacity being rented to customers in advance of the opening". The provider now has 400 MVA in Europe with more than 300 MVA available in the Frankfurt region."

E-shelter is a subsidiary of the part-government owned Japanese communications company NTT Com, which is itself a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation.

NTT Com acquired a 86.7 percent e-shelter in 2015, with the deal establishing it as one of the largest data center operators in Europe. At the time it was estimated that the deal was worth about $836m (100bn yen), but the full sum was not disclosed.

Other NTT subsidiaries include RagingWire in the US and Gyron in the UK, now rebranded as NTT.
