The digital transformation of the global economy, now well underway, is dependent first on energy, and second, on data center and network connectivity. Indeed, the full Energy 4.0 ecosystem is now converging with the “digital factory” of the future - the modern data center.

DCD>Energy Smart on the afternoon of June 19, the day preceding the main DCD>Webscale conference, will bring the data center power infrastructure industry together with the energy utilities sector. Renewable energy distribution networks, smartgrids, on-site co-generation, microgrids, AI and data analytics, IoT, blockchain and smart generation are all topics to be explored in this audience-participation, open-mic roundtable format.

“Senior leadership on both the data center demand side, the utilities supply side and the borderlands in between have already signed on to the important roundtable conversations,” says DatacenterDynamics’ conference chair Bruce Taylor. Dr Julie Albright, USC, is co-chair and event moderator. Mark Mills, senior fellow of the Manhattan Institute and well-known Forbes contributor on energy and technology issues, will moderate the lead-off panel.

“No topic today is more important to the data center than that of clean, abundant, sustainable, reliable, resilient, low-cost and secure energy,” says DCD founder and CEO, George Rockett. “And that means to us getting digital power professionals from both worlds together to explore what the energy world will look like as the era of the zettabyte economy really gets a head of steam. We’re just at the early-stage of this growth curve.”

Some of the organizations with top executives participating include: Google, Equinix, PG&E, Uber, SCE, Hydro Quebec, Bloom Energy, Manhattan Institute, USC Energy Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, Switch, Uptime Institute, LBNL, Salesforce, BaseLayer, BSR Future of Internet Power, Schneider Electric, Duke Energy, Consumers Energy, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Aligned Energy, Infomart Data Centers and The Green Grid.

Seating for this special afternoon program is limited.

Infrastructure Masons will host a “local edition” meeting on Monday morning, June 19, prior to the Energy Smart roundtables. A key component of that meeting will be a briefing on the progress being made in the development of a new methodology for determining data center performance in the cloud era.

Results of that iMasons meeting and other such meetings held around the country and abroad will be a special closing panel discussion for DCD>Webscale on Tuesday afternoon, chaired by Dean Nelson, head of Uber Compute and iMasons’ founder and CEO. Also on the panel are Bloom Energy’s Peter Gross and Aligned Data Centers CEO Jakob Carnemark.

DCD>Energy Smart takes place on Monday afternoon, June 19, and is a part of DCD>Webscale on June 20. To attend you must Register for DCD>Webscale, limited places are available.
