Switch held a groundbreaking ceremony this week for an expansion at its Las Vegas data center campus.

The expansion will add 1.1 million square feet to the ongoing work at Switch’s core campus. Once fully completed, the site will cover 4.6 million sq ft.

The additional land has the potential to add up to 115MW of capacity to the campus, bringing total power capacity onsite to 545MW once construction is completed.

Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Switch spokesperson Adam Kramer said: “Las Vegas is Switch’s home, the place where we started, so to have the ability to continue to grow, continue to support our community and continue to support our customers with this expansion is something we’re extremely excited about.”

In 2017 the company added a 350,000 sq ft data center to its Las Vegas campus, adding 40MW of potential power to the site.

Switch has sources all of its energy through renewable PPAs, after it joined the US government’s American Business Act on Climate Pledge in 2015.

Tenants at Switch's Las Vegas campus also receive significant tax incentives which include not paying personal state income tax and a 75 percent reduction in personal property tax.
