As resource conservation gains traction, how can we turn waste into value?
The ‘take-make-dispose’ model of resource consumption rose sharply during the post-war boom and is in direct contrast to the restorative, regenerative approach used to design out waste, and keep efficient products and materials in use. With a move to a circular economy gaining steam across the industry, can we truly reach our ‘net-zero’ pledges without conservation and reuse at the epicentre of sustainability strategy? Could equipment reduction be key to tackling supply chain shortages? And might waste heat recovery turn operators from ‘energy hogs’ to ‘energy gods’ winning important allies in the local community?
We ask our panellists to outline the steps they are taking to build a circular business model, and how they are navigating in waste reduction terrain in light of the exponential growth of digital services.
