Fireside chat: Getting ready for AI - How is high-performance computing going to affect how data centers are designed & built?

This episode is available to stream on-demand

The advances in high-performance computing, as well as in day-to-day use of AI, all mean that 100MW data centers are now the norm, with densities of 30kW per rack. Data center buildings are under increasing pressure to squeeze more density out of whatever they have available, and are being designed in order to meet the requirements of customers who may want to incorporate bigger workloads.

In this discussion, speakers will explore how the structure of the data center building is adapting to meet the demands of a heavier load capacity. With racks becoming heavier and increasing cooling requirements, speakers will debate whether we are seeing the advent of more widespread robotics in construction and direct-to-chip cooling. With many data centers trying to meet twice the capacity but with the same building footprint, how will this affect retrofitting? Furthermore, with many designs being standardized around equipment due to supply chain challenges, speakers will provide practical insight on how to incorporate the possibility of accommodating higher density workloads in the design process.
