Panel: Are secondary markets equipped to meet the demand in data center growth?

This episode is available to stream on-demand

With tier 1 markets in North America arguably close to saturation point and the cost of land and personnel skyrocketing, the demand to build in secondary markets has been steadily increasing. Market demand for hyperscale and colocation has meant non-stop construction over the past two years, but with the first indicators that market demand has slowed somewhat, there has been greater pressure to build in secondary markets. Cities such as Columbus, Atlanta and Salt Lake City are becoming key established data center markets, driven by cheapers costs and fewer difficulties with PPAs, land and disgruntled residents.

With this in mind, this episode will explore what opportunities the move towards secondary markets can provide to the industry, and whether these new hubs are prepared to meet the demands in terms of power, water & personnel requirements. With Cloud service providers looking to broaden their geographical footprint, are secondary markets likely to develop into primary markets in the near future? What will be the benefits in terms of connectivity, and changes in market competition?
