A new HPC/cryptomine data center is coming to southern Minnesota.

The Faribault County Register reports AAIM Data Centers will begin construction of a new data center in the city of Blue Earth soon.

The facility will be located on Highway 169, between the new Blue Earth Light and Water substation and Cabin Coffee – it will reportedly measure around 10,000 sq ft (929 sqm). Further details haven’t been shared.

“We expect to start construction very soon,” AAIM CEO Anthony Levesque told the FC Register. “It may be ambitious but we hope to get it done by September, or by the end of the year at the latest.”

Faribault County is located along the southern border of central Minnesota, some 120 miles south of Minneapolis. The city of Blue Earth takes its name from the Blue Earth River, which surrounds the town. The river was named by the Dakota tribes for the deposits of bluish-green clay, which is no longer visible today.

AAIM – not to be confused with DigitalBridge-owned APAC operator AIMS – reportedly chose Blue Earth due to low energy costs and quality fiber via Bevcomm.

“We also talked to Blue Earth officials at the city and at Blue Earth Light and Water and they were very receptive,” Levesque said. “It was incredible to see they were willing to work with us and fast-track this project.”

Founded in 2022, AAIM bills itself as a provider of HPC data centers – though there looks to be a strong cryptocurrency mining link. The company reportedly has 20MW of capacity currently being built out, with plans to operate 70MW by the end of 2024.

The company started working on a facility in Aurora, Nebraska three months ago. It also has a site in Missouri.

In Aurora, the company acquired 2.5 acres along East 11 Road from Aurora Development Corporation, and is developing a 7,300 sq ft (678 sqm) facility on the site. It will reportedly offer 5MW of initial capacity, with the potential to expand to 15MW.

Levesque is also CTO of crypto mining hardware provider firm Hash House Tech. He was previously VP of operations at Canadian operator Enovum Data Centers.

AAIMS COO Matthew Carson is also COO at Hash House, which bills itself as a digital asset mining company that provides equipment to companies such as Lancium, Northern Data, AAIM Data Centers, and Bitfarms. The company has developed its own immersion cooling data center container, known as the Trident I.
