Vaishali Kasture, the interim head of Amazon Web Services (AWS) India and South Asia, has resigned.

This represents the second abrupt departure in the same role in less than a year, reports TechCrunch.

Kasture joined Amazon around five years ago, and has held the top role since June 2023. She was appointed after her predecessor, Puneet Chandok, abruptly left the role and took a position at Microsoft, India.

Shortly before Chandok resigned, AWS announced at an AWS Summit that it planned to invest $12.7bn in building cloud infrastructure in India by 2030.

Prior to the news of Kasture's departure, she seemed optimistic about AWS's growth in the region: "Our total planned investments in India will be more than $16.4 billion or 1.36 lakh crores by 2030, and we expect this to contribute $23 billion to India’s GDP by then," she posted on LinkedIn. Kasture's LinkedIn profile still states that she works at AWS.

The reason for Kasture's departure is unknown, as is who will be her replacement. DCD has reached out to AWS for comment.
