Barclays has signed a new private cloud services deal with HPE GreenLake.

The British bank became a customer of the HPE Edge-to-cloud offering in 2021, and has since migrated more than 50,000 workloads to the GreenLake platform.

This new deal is an extension of the previous agreement, and will see Barclays double its use of GreenLake over the next three years.

HPE GreenLake is an Edge-to-cloud service where HPE data center servers and storage are deployed on-premises, but with cloud-like capabilities.

The migration has enabled Barclays to decommission legacy systems, free up rack space and reduce its power consumption. This, along with modernization of workloads and increased workload density, will help Barclays to reduce the carbon footprint of its workloads.

HPE began offering GreenLake in 2018 and expanded its services in 2022.

In June 2023, HPE added an AI and supercomputer-based offering to the GreenLake portfolio which gives customers the ability to train, tune, and deploy large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) using the GreenLake platform.

New customers this year include engineering company Toyo Tire Corporation, Danfoss, FC Barcelona, and the US Defense Information Systems Agency.
