Sasaki previously served as vice president of the platform business division at BBIX. He then left to become CEO at BBSakura, a joint venture between Sakura Internet and SoftBank-owned BBIX.

He succeeds Hidetoshi Ikeda, who moves into the role of director and chairman.

According to his LinkedIn profile, outgoing CEO Ikeda served four years in his role at the helm of the company.

The change will be formally announced at BBIX’s 24th annual general meeting of shareholders on June 19, 2024.

Also on the board of directors are Keiichi Makizono, Takashi Tsutsui, and Yasuhiro Koyabu.

Owned by SoftBank, BBIX has been providing cloud and mobile services since 2003. The company is currently headquartered in Tokyo.

Japanese telco SoftBank also owns dark fiber company BB Backbone and operates 13 data centers across Japan. SoftBank announced plans to develop a 150MW data center in Osaka earlier this week.
