Indian carrier Bharti Airtel has built more than 1,700 new cell towers in the state of Gujarat in the past seven months.

The telco revealed this week that it's bolstered its network in the state, estimated to have a population of more than 60 million.

The company's tower deployment is equal to around eight cell towers being connected each day.

According to Airtel, the new towers will expand its coverage to 7,000 villages across the state, serving more than five million people.

"Airtel's network now provides connectivity in urban, semi-urban, and rural areas, including highways, tourist destinations, and trade centers, ensuring comprehensive coverage in the region," said the telco.

Airtel currently owns a 48.95 percent stake in its towers subsidiary, Indus Towers. Indus operates more than 225,000 towers across India, plus 374,900 colocation sites.

Earlier this month, Airtel finished deploying additional spectrum in the 2,100 MHz, 1,800 MHz, and 900 MHz bands it scooped up in June's auction in 14 states, including Rajasthan, Kolkata, and Punjab.

The telco is the second biggest in India, behind Reliance Jio. Airtel has more than 350 million mobile subscribers.
