Caddis Cloud Solutions is working with IP3 Corporation to help advance the integration of nuclear energy sources such as small modular reactors (SMRs) in the data center market.

Data center development consultancy Caddis has agreed a strategic partnership with IP3, a US-based nuclear power integrator.

Together they will “focus on leveraging IP3’s expertise in nuclear energy to provide scalable and resilient power solutions for data centers,” according to a joint statement released by the companies.

Scott Jarnagin, founder and CEO of Caddis Cloud Solutions, said his company would use its digital infrastructure expertise to ensure SMRs and other nuclear solutions are ready to meet the needs of data center operators.

“This partnership with IP3, born out of a shared vision to address the pressing need for reliable power in data centers, marks a significant advancement for the industry,” Jarnagin said.

He added: “Leveraging IP3's expertise in nuclear energy strategy will enable us to provide our clients with unparalleled reliability and efficiency in their operations.”

With power grids around the world stretched to breaking point, nuclear power is seen as a potential way to meet the fast-growing energy needs of the data center sector. SMRs, which could be cheaper and easier to deploy than traditional nuclear plants, have been touted as a solution that could be installed on or near data center campuses to provide directly to servers. However, the technology remains at a nascent stage.

“We are thrilled to partner with Caddis Cloud Solutions to bring our unique approach to developing privatized powered land opportunities to data centers with SMRs,” said Michael Hewitt, co-founder and CEO of IP3.

“By combining our nuclear infrastructure and privatized 'power to the offtake' expertise with Caddis’ leadership in data center development, we can address the urgent need for Abundant Baseload and Clean power generation, ensuring the growth and stability of critical infrastructure.”

Caddis launched in July this year, having previously been known as CloudSphere Consulting.

CEO Jarnigan is a former Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Microsoft executive. In August the company partnered with Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure to offer sustainable AI data center solutions to clients.
