The city of Laguna Beach in California has put out a request for proposals (RFP) for upgrades to its data center.

First reported by Gov Tech Industry Insider, the city is looking for a range of upgrades to the facility.

According to the RFP posting, the local government authority is looking for an "expert vendor" for the project, which will include the "design, permitting, and installation of electrical, cooling, and communications infrastructure, including a data center cabinet, data center Vertiv CRVs, exterior concrete support pads, communication block consolidation and remediation, data center reconfiguration, single point grounding, and structural anchoring, all within the city."

This is hoped to improve the city's data center environment and its reliability, as well as its room for future growth.

The contract is estimated to have a value of $335,000, and bidding will close on September 5, 2024. Works on the data center are expected to commence in November 2024, and take up to 100 days to complete.

The location of the data center has not been shared, though the City Hall itself is based at 505 Forest Avenue, Laguna Beach.

Laguna Beach is positioned in Southern California within Orange County.

California has a significant data center market, with Data Center Map listing 280 facilities in the state. Around half of these are based in either Santa Clara or Los Angeles.
