Canberra Data Centres (CDC) is to build a data center in Melbourne, Victoria.
The Australian data center firm plans to build a 150MW facility in the city. Facility size, location, or construction timelines weren’t shared.
“Since its inception as a clean and green data centre business, CDC’s market leading position has been based on meeting client needs as they arise,” said CDC founder and CEO Greg Boorer. “This new announcement of entering the market in Melbourne will see CDC add an additional 150MW of capacity to the existing development pipeline”.
“In a market where announcements about data center capacity investments are now commonplace, but where projects rarely progress to anywhere near the stated capacity, CDC is distinguishing itself with over one billion dollars of construction underway today, to reach 268MW of operating capacity.”
CDC said its combined operating and development capacity exceeds 700MW. The company plans to have 13 data centers in operation by 2023.
The company currently has data center campuses in operation and development around Canberra and Sydney in Australia and Auckland, New Zealand.
This year Australia’s Home Affairs and Securities commission have signed hosting contracts with CDC as government departments look to exit Global Switch facilities in the wake of it becoming majority-owned by a Chinese steel company.
CDC is the one the seven data center firms certified under the Australian Government’s hosting certification framework and says it is the only company where every facility in the country is certified.
