Cellnex UK has signed a new long-term agreement with Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 that will see the company provide the carriers with tower infrastructure and associated services.

The announcement of the agreement comes weeks after Vodafone and Virgin Media signed their own network-sharing deal in the UK for the next decade.

That agreement includes plans for Virgin Media O2 to acquire spectrum from Vodafone, which could help the latter gain regulatory approval for its merger with Three.

Cellnex UK CEO Gianluca Landonlina noted that the new agreement strengthens its "commitment to the UK market and provides long-term visibility to both our industrial activity and financial investment."

“This agreement exemplifies the strength of Cellnex’s partnerships with its customers. The new agreement, forged through great collaboration between our organizations, will enable the efficient sharing of our infrastructure today and the flexibility to support the growth of our customers’ networks in the future," he said.

"Cellnex will provide related services and share our capabilities, thereby becoming a valuable partner to help Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 achieve their objectives."

Both Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 said that the agreement will help to expand their respective coverage in the UK, while also maintaining their current coverage.

Spanish wireless infrastructure company Cellnex operates cell towers across a number of European countries including Spain, the UK, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Last week, Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said it will launch a Phase 2 investigation into Phoenix Tower International’s (PTI) proposed acquisition of Cellnex’s Irish operations.

The deal, expected to be worth €971 million ($1.05 billion), was announced back in March.
